I know it's only 2024, and time travel seems like something straight out of movies, but what if the future was closer than you think? If you had the chance to leap through time, would you take it?&nbsp;

Consider that this is the year 2080. The United Nations Centre for Timekeeping has opened the gates for the general public to experience time travel. As most of the public would be first-time travelers; anxiety and uncertainty are very big deterrents.     Propose a solution through which these time travelers can understand the notions of time travel, get acquainted with the risks, gather information about vacant slots, and book tickets accordingly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

PurposeTo show the raw ideation process behind possible solutions.

Design RationaleThough this slide looks organized, the brainstorming process was far messier. I explored everything from visual safety cues to social proof. This chaotic process helped generate new ideas, which I later refined. By keeping the process flexible, I ensured that I could respond to feedback and pivot ideas quickly.

PurposeTo visually plot out the user’s experience from start to finish.

I mapped out the user’s emotional state at each stage of the journey. From initial curiosity to booking a time slot, I used this to inform decisions about when to introduce safety measures, visuals, and personalized content.

After multiple iterations and feedback, I realised that certain ideas from the low-fidelity phase didn’t make sense for the final design. &nbsp;

A lot of features that I initially thought were 'cool' didn’t make sense to many people, so I removed them. I then decided to take a fresh approach, incorporating features suggested by users, which improved the flows and added new functionality.

Each screen was crafted to keep user engagement high and anxiety low. For example, the safety guidelines screen was designed to look approachable, with clear icons and minimal text to keep users focused and reassured. Personalization screens offered curated content to increase the likelihood of booking.

Personalized Content: Showcases history-related content, aiming to engage users immediately based on their past behavior. Social Proof: Displays travelers who have taken the offer, leveraging social influence to increase the appeal.

Location and Time Purpose:&nbsp;To provide quick context about the featured historical period. Justification:&nbsp;Sets the scene for the user, grounding them in the time travel experience.

Discounted Rates:&nbsp;Time-limited offers create urgency and encourage immediate action.

Refer &amp; Earn:&nbsp;Incentivizes users to spread the word, expanding the app’s reach and user base organically.

Warning Note:&nbsp;A clear, cautionary message emphasizes the importance of following the rules, so users don’t alter the history.

Urgency Cues: Prompts the user to "act fast" to create a sense of urgency, prompting quick action from the user.

To enhance the booking process and support the business goals, the strategy behind this design focuses on user engagement, trust, and driving additional services. Here's a refined explanation:

The booking process is designed to be easy and seamless, with progressive questions that guide the user based on their travel experience. This ensures users are informed and feel more secure as the app actively adapts to their expertise, blocking access to unsafe time eras.

By locking certain time eras based on a traveler’s level of experience, the app builds a sense of trust and safety. Users will feel that the app is looking out for their well-being, which reduces anxiety and drop-off rates. This trust encourages users to continue their journey without hesitation.

When users see that advanced or restricted travel options are locked due to their current skill level, this naturally creates curiosity and a desire to unlock those experiences. By prompting them to take advanced courses or gain more travel expertise, the app creates a demand for additional paid services. This is a subtle upsell that leverages user psychology people generally want what they can't have, and making these locked eras exclusive drives them to explore ways to unlock them, bringing additional revenue to the app.

A floating question button positioned at the bottom right corner of the screen offers quick access to FAQs or the option to talk to a trip advisor at any time. This feature helps ease anxiety, which can build at various stages of the user journey, providing instant support to reduce drop-off rates. By being easily accessible and visible, the button ensures users feel guided and reassured throughout their experience, leading to higher engagement and conversion.

The app offers a quick and easy option to add travel insurance, ensuring users feel secure throughout their journey. By prompting users at various points such as during the booking process and post-booking the app reinforces the importance of this service.

Immediately following the booking confirmation, users are presented with safety guidelines. This strategic placement encourages them to read the information more mindfully, ensuring they understand essential safety measures.

When I got the chance to redesign the Delhi Metro app, I saw the opportunity to transform a frustrating experience into a seamless one. My task was to deliver an accessible app that works for everyone, from the elderly to people with disabilities. And all of this? Within four days a sprint that would challenge my creative muscles.

Since time was tight, I kicked off my research with what was readily available—user reviews. Reading through them revealed the common pain points: failed payments, unclear navigation, and a general lack of user-friendly features. One of my favorites? A user who mentioned they couldn’t book tickets, even after multiple tries—despite being on 5G! (No pressure, right?)

Next, I analyzed two competitor apps in the Delhi-NCR region, studying their interface, user flows, and pain points. One thing stood out: both had superior navigation and better ticketing flows, something the Delhi Metro app lacked. But they also missed the mark on inclusive design an opportunity I planned to seize.

Now came the heuristic analysis of the existing app. Major usability issues surfaced quickly:

My goal? Simplify and clarify at every step of the user journey.

With these insights in mind, the focus was clear:

In my research, I discovered that over half a million people in Delhi are colorblind. Yet, the app relied heavily on color-coded lines! It was a lightbulb moment: how can we design something if it doesn’t work for everyone?

The goal? No commuter is left behind.

Redesigning the Delhi Metro app was not just about fixing usability issues but creating an experience that’s inclusive for everyone. It’s not just an app, it’s a tool that can help millions of people navigate one of the busiest metro systems in the world.
