The Spark of an Idea 🤔

The idea for Medito emerged from a growing awareness of the mental health crisis affecting individuals worldwide. Recognizing the need for accessible mental health support, the goal was to create an app that prioritizes user well-being over profit. Medito aims to empower users with tools for mindfulness and emotional regulation, making mental health resources available to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

Scope of Work

The project involved:

  • Conducting user research to understand the needs and challenges of potential users.
    • Designing an intuitive user interface that promotes engagement and ease of use.
      • Developing features that address the specific pain points identified during research.

        Why Not-For-Profit? 💸❌

Many mental health apps focus on tackling major issues, often requiring subscriptions at crucial moments. This didn't sit right with me. Medito was about empowerment, not exploitation. I envisioned it as a non-profit haven, offering tools to navigate everyday anxieties and cultivate a sense of well-being, not a replacement for professional help.

Target Audience and Key Insights 👇🏻

The primary target audience for Medito includes:

        • Individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges.
          • People seeking mindfulness practices to enhance their mental well-being.
            • Users looking for accessible mental health resources without financial barriers.

Key insights from user research highlighted the need for:

              • A user-friendly interface that reduces barriers to entry.
                • Realistic expectations regarding the app's capabilities.
                  • Features that promote regular engagement and self-reflection.

                    User Research: Who, What, Why❓

To gather valuable insights, I conducted user research through:

                    • Surveys: Distributed to a diverse group of potential users to gather quantitative data on their mental health needs and app usage preferences.
                      • Interviews: Conducted in-depth interviews with individuals to understand their experiences with existing mental health apps and their expectations for a new solution.

The research aimed to uncover the motivations behind users seeking mental health support and the challenges they face in accessing it.

Meet the Users: Real People, Real Needs 👥

Instead of traditional user personas, I developed "Meet the Users" profiles to present the target audience in a relatable manner. Each profile highlights:

                        • Background: Brief descriptions of users' lives, including their mental health challenges and motivations for using the app.
                          • Goals: What they hope to achieve with Medito, such as reducing anxiety or improving mindfulness.
                            • Pain Points: Common frustrations with existing mental health resources, such as complexity or lack of personalization.

                              User Research: Who, What, Why

Creating a User Journey Map allowed me to visualize the user experience and identify pain points throughout the process. Key stages included:

                              1. Awareness: Users discover Medito through word-of-mouth or online searches.
                                1. Onboarding: Users sign up and are introduced to the app's features.
                                  1. Engagement: Users explore meditation sessions and mood tracking.
                                    1. Reflection: Users assess their progress and adjust their practices.

By mapping out these stages, I identified potential features to address pain points, such as:

                                      • Simplified onboarding to reduce friction.
                                        • Personalized meditation recommendations based on user mood.
                                          • Reminders to encourage daily engagement.

Standing Out from the Crowd ✨

The app market is overflowing with mental health options. To carve out a niche, I conducted a competitive analysis. What worked? What didn't? The key, I discovered, was personalization and engagement. Medito wouldn't be a generic app; it would cater to individual needs and preferences, making the experience truly their own.

Scribbles That Go a Long Way ➡️

I believe the worse the drawing, the better the ideas.

In the design process for Medito, low and mid-fidelity wireframes played a crucial role in shaping the user experience. These initial sketches, often resembling simple scribbles, laid the groundwork for the app's structure and functionality.

                                            Design System

                                            Design Process 👇🏻

                                              • Design Elements: Friendly graphics and concise text explain that Medito is a supportive tool rather than a magical solution. The onboarding process includes a brief questionnaire to tailor the experience to user needs.

                                                            • Categorized sessions (e.g., stress relief, sleep aid) with clear descriptions.

                                                                4. Meditation Session Screen

                                                                                          Final Outcomes 👀
